Aurora PhotoCenter supports creativity through photography. We are passionate about photography’s emotional and social power as an art medium in its own right. Serving as a creative hub, Aurora elevates the photographic arts through exhibitions, workshops, and access to creative tools for practicing artists. Aurora is a community where photographers and enthusiasts alike come together.
Located in Indianapolis, Indiana, Aurora PhotoCenter serves as a bridge between local artists and the greater photographic community, with a regional, national, and international scope. Aurora was founded in 2018 by a group of local artists who recognized the need for a photography-centric creative space offering resources and opportunities to working and aspiring photographers.
Throughout 2019, Aurora will co-host its programming with several local partners, including Tube Factory at Big Car. As Aurora grows and receives non-profit status, it will establish darkroom and studio facilities for both community education and working artists. Aurora’s heart and soul will be its state-of-the-art digital and traditional silver-based labs for the production of images from camera to print. Additionally, its gallery space will host yearly exhibitions featuring cutting-edge contemporary photography being made today by regional, national, and international photographic artists. In addition to an annual program of unique and innovative workshops, classes, and lectures that will draw participants from Indianapolis and beyond, Aurora will offer a residency program for the production of photographic work that contributes to the dialog on contemporary photography.
Aurora aspires to be the Midwest’s premiere destination for photography. Aurora will be a place where artists meet, create, share work, and find inspiration.
